I’M BACK!!!!!

Hello everyone and welcome back to a new and improved MikeyMix!!!

After (what seems like) a long absence I am happy to announce that I am returning from retirement and bringing you all lots more blog posts!!

Although music will forever remain my passion I am pleased to announce that we are undergoing a “revamp”, the revamp is inspired by my recent love for making YouTube videos and thus I will still be reviewing music but I’ll also be dabbling in many other genres of blog post!!

For those who aren’t aware: I currently make YouTube videos (its an attempt to expand the MikeyMix “brand”) and my channel can be found by simply searching “MikeyMixTV”.

In other (more cheesier, some would argue cringier) news: I recently joined Musical.ly! Feel free to follow me my username is @MikeyMixTV!!

Sometime today I will be writing up my review of ‘Swish Swish’ by Katy Perry & Nicki Minaj so look forward to that!

So until next time guys: stay safe, be happy and keep on jammin’!!!

ANNOUNCEMENT: YouTube Channel!!!

Good morning everyone…welcome to MikeyMix! This blog post is going to be very short but I’m just making it to let you all know I’ve recently started a YouTube channel!

The channel itself doesn’t have a specific genre so there’s something for everyone.

The reason I made a channel is to attract a new form of audience and get the MikeyMix brand on another distribution channel.

I’ll link my first three videos below, any and all feedback is welcome and it would be highly appreciated if you could like and comment on the video and maybe even subscribe to the channel?

Until next time: stay safe, be happy and keep on jamming!!

Bart Baker: “Celebritease” – REVIEW

Good evening readers, welcome back to MikeyMix! I understand it’s been a couple of days since my last blog post and for that I am sorry (university assignments have taken up a lot of my time these past few weeks).

Minor absence aside lets begin the review! Tonight’s review will be on the album ‘Celebritease’ by YouTube parody artist and musician Bart Baker.

The album which was released today (March 1st) consists of 8 tracks all of which reference a celebrity in some way or another.

The track listing is as follows:

  1. Taylor Swift
  2. Calvin Harris
  3. Kimye
  4. Justin Bieber
  5. Ariana Grande
  6. Drake
  7. Future
  8. #DWBD (Don’t Worry Bout Dat)

Baker provides all the vocals for the tracks and the album definitely stays true to his style: parody and comical.

I would definitely consider this album a form of parody/satire as throughout Baker shades (makes fun of, disrespects, jokes about) the artists: whether it be via lyrics or imitating their generic style.

My favourite track from this album has got to be either the tracks ‘Ariana Grande’ or ‘Calvin Harris’ but that is only because I like the beats of both tracks (the lyrics aren’t very smart and definitely not worth praising).

Overall thoughts: I am not the biggest fan of this album, I had low expectations (I’m never usually the biggest fan of YouTuber projects) and I was still quite disappointed.

I have been a big fan of Baker‘s parodies for many years and so I expected more from him as I know he can do much better.

I will be giving this album a 1 out of 5 star rating.

‘Celebritease’ is available to buy on iTunes and available for streaming on all streaming sites: Apple Music, Spotify and Tidal.

Until next time: stay safe, be happy and keep on smiling!!

That Poppy: “I’m Poppy” – REVIEW

Happy Valentine’s Day readers and welcome to MikeyMix! If you’re as single as I am then this Valentine’s Day meant only two things: the free six inch sub with the purchase of a large drink deal from SubWay AND the release of That Poppy‘s new track ‘I’m Poppy’.

If you don’t know about the enigmatic star That Poppy I have included a link to the analysis on her I wrote on my other blog here.

The track which is 3 minutes and 6 seconds in length showcases the highly electronic, auto-tuned style that we have come to expect from Poppy.

Alike all of the tracks Poppy has released, ‘I’m Poppy’ is a satirical piece: social media, advancement of technology and the tropes of being a pop star are all themes that Poppy is known for.

This track chooses to focus on the advancement of technology as throughout Poppy is inviting the listener (and an unseen robot “fan”) to her “future paradise”.

In true Poppy fashion the chorus of the track pokes fun at the lack of lyrical diversity (everyone is following a trend) within the music industry, this is because the chorus is simply Poppy spelling her name over and over again.

As simplistic and satirical as the track is I have to say that I love it! Ever since I first listened to it it’s been on repeat all morning, this could definitely be my favourite track from Poppy behind ‘Lowlife’.

I will be giving this track a 4 out of 5 star rating.

Until next time: stay safe, be happy and keep on jamming!!
